We can put a man up in space But on earth it's just a rat race. Is this the future?
We got people workin' 9 to 5 While over 10 percent are trying to stay alive. Is this the future?
Crime is up, education is down But the Dow Jones is on the rebound. Is this the future? Ronald Reagan says stay the course But only a fool would wanna endorse This kind of future.
Everyday as I go my way I can hear the people as they say, "Hey brother can you spare a dime, I don' wanna end up doin' time." But they say it's just a sign of the future.
Found a car that I thought I'd buy but the interest rates were just too high. Is this the future? Worked years perfecting my craft Now my boss is giving me the shaft. Is this the future?
Used to eat steaks and caviar Now it's peanut butter in a candy bar. Is this the future? All my money is nearly spent Don't have enough to pay the rent You can cancel the future.
Everyday as I go my way I can hear the people as they say, "Hey brother can you spare a dime, I don' wanna end up doin' time." But they say it's just a sign of the future.

No matter how well life has treated you, I reckon everyone can relate to this:
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter never seem to find the time Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way The time is gone, the song is over Thought I'd something more to say

If you're travelin' in the north country fair Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline Remember me to one who lives there She once was a true love of mine
If you go when the snowflakes storm When the rivers freeze and summer ends Please see if she's wearing a coat so warm To keep her from the howlin' winds
Please see for me if her hair hangs long If it rolls and flows all down her breast Please see for me if her hair hangs long For that's the way I remember her best
I'm a-wonderin' if she remembers me at all Many times I've often prayed In the darkness of my night In the brightness of my day
So, if you're travelin' in the north country fair Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline Remember me to one who lives there She once was a true love of mine

The festival was over, the boys were all plannin' for a fall The cabaret was quiet except for the drillin' in the wall The curfew had been lifted and the gamblin' wheel shut down Anyone with any sense had already left town He was standin' in the doorway lookin' like the Jack of Hearts
He moved across the mirrored room, "Set it up for everyone, " he said Then everyone commenced to do what they were doin' before he turned their heads Then he walked up to a stranger and he asked him with a grin "Could you kindly tell me, friend, what time the show begins?" Then he moved into the corner, face down like the Jack of Hearts
Backstage the girls were playin' five-card stud by the stairs Lily had two queens, she was hopin' for a third to match her pair Outside the streets were fillin' up, the window was open wide A gentle breeze was blowin', you could feel it from inside Lily called another bet and drew up the Jack of Hearts
Big Jim was no one's fool, he owned the town's only diamond mine He made his usual entrance lookin' so dandy and so fine With his bodyguards and silver cane and every hair in place He took whatever he wanted to and he laid it all to waste But his bodyguards and silver cane were no match for the Jack of Hearts
Rosemary combed her hair and took a carriage into town She slipped in through the side door lookin' like a queen without a crown She fluttered her false eyelashes and whispered in his ear "Sorry, darlin', that I'm late, " but he didn't seem to hear He was starin' into space over at the Jack of Hearts
"I know I've seen that face before, " Big Jim was thinkin' to himself "Maybe down in Mexico or a picture up on somebody's shelf" But then the crowd began to stamp their feet and the house lights did dim And in the darkness of the room there was only Jim and him Starin' at the butterfly who just drew the Jack of Hearts
Lily was a princess, she was fair-skinned and precious as a child She did whatever she had to do, she had that certain flash every time she smiled She'd come away from a broken home, had lots of strange affairs With men in every walk of life which took her everywhere But she'd never met anyone quite like the Jack of Hearts
The hangin' judge came in unnoticed and was being wined and dined The drillin' in the wall kept up but no one seemed to pay it any mind It was known all around that Lily had Jim's ring And nothing would ever come between Lily and the king No, nothin' ever would except maybe the Jack of Hearts
Rosemary started drinkin' hard and seein' her reflection in the knife She was tired of the attention, tired of playin' the role of Big Jim's wife She had done a lot of bad things, even once tried suicide Was lookin' to do just one good deed before she died She was gazin' to the future, riding on the Jack of Hearts
Lily took her dress off and buried it away "Has your luck run out?" she laughed at him "Well, I guess you must have known it would someday Be careful not to touch the wall, there's a brand-new coat of paint I'm glad to see you're still alive, you're lookin' like a saint" Down the hallway footsteps were comin' for the Jack of Hearts
The backstage manager was pacing all around by his chair "There's something funny going on, " he said, "I can just feel it in the air" He went to get the hangin' judge, but the hangin' judge was drunk As the leading actor hurried by in the costume of a monk There was no actor anywhere better than the Jack of Hearts
No one knew the circumstance but they say that it happened pretty quick The door to the dressing room burst open and a cold revolver clicked And Big Jim was standin' there, ya couldn't say surprised Rosemary right beside him, steady in her eyes She was with Big Jim but she was leanin' to the Jack of Hearts
Two doors down the boys finally made it through the wall And cleaned out the bank safe, it's said that they got off with quite a haul In the darkness by the riverbed they waited on the ground For one more member who had business back in town But they couldn't go no further without the Jack of Hearts
The next day was hangin' day, the sky was overcast and black Big Jim lay covered up, killed by a penknife in the back And Rosemary on the gallows, she didn't even blink The hangin' judge was sober, he hadn't had a drink The only person on the scene missin' was the Jack of Hearts
The cabaret was empty now, a sign said, "Closed for repair" Lily had already taken all of the dye out of her hair She was thinkin' 'bout her father, who she very rarely saw Thinkin' 'bout Rosemary and thinkin' about the law But, most of all she was thinkin' 'bout the Jack of Hearts

And the first commandment reads that human flesh and blood is sacred until there is no more food.
You shut your mouth How can you say I go about things the wrong way? I am human and I need to be loved Just like everybody else does There's a club if you'd like to go You could meet somebody who really loves you So you go and you stand on your own And you leave on your own And you go home and you cry And you want to die

two lovers sat on a park bench with their bodies touching each other holding hands in the moonlight there was silence between them so profound was their love for each other they needed no words to express it and so they sat in silence on a park bench with their bodies touching holding hands in the moonlight finally she spoke "do you love me, john?" she asked "you know i love you, darling" he replied "i love you more than tongue can tell you are the light of my life my sun, moon, and stars you are my everything without you, i have no reason for being" again, there was silence as the two lovers sat on a park bench their bodies touching holding hands in the moonlight once more, she spoke "how much do you love me, john?" she asked he answered, "how much do i love you? count the stars in the sky measure the waters of the oceans with a teaspoon number the grains of sand on the seashore impossible, you say?"

One of my all time faves - about PTSD this lyric
Another head hangs lowly Child is slowly taken And the violence caused such silence Who are we mistaken
But you see it's not me It's not my family In your head, in your head They are fighting With their tanks and their bombs And their bombs and their guns In your head, in your head They are cryin'
In your head, in your head Zombie, zombie, zombie, hey, hey What's in your head, in your head Zombie, zombie, zombie, hey, hey, hey, oh
Dou, dou, dou, dou Dou, dou, dou, dou Dou, dou, dou, dou Dou, dou, dou, dou
Another mother's breakin' Heart is taking over When the violence causes silence We must be mistaken
It's the same old theme Since nineteen-sixteen In your head, in your head They're still fightin' With their tanks and their bombs And their bombs and their guns In your head, in your head They are dyin'
In your head, in your head Zombie, zombie, zombie, hey, hey What's in your head, in your head Zombie, zombie, zombie, hey, hey, hey Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh Hey, oh, ya, ya-a

All around me are familiar faces Worn out places Worn out faces Bright and early for their daily races Going nowhere Going nowhere
And their tears are filling up their glasses No expression No expression Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow No tomorrow No tomorrow
And I find it kind of funny I find it kind of sad The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had I find it hard to tell you 'Cause I find it hard to take When people run in circles it's a very very Mad world Mad world Mad world Mad world
Children waiting for the day they feel good Happy birthday Happy birthday Made to feel the way that every child should Sit and listen Sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous No one knew me No one knew me Hello, teacher, tell me what's my lesson? Look right through me Look right through me
And I find it kind of funny I find it kind of sad The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had I find it hard to tell you 'Cause I find it hard to take When people run in circles it's a very very Mad world Mad world Mad world Mad world
And I find it kind of funny I find it kind of sad The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had I find it hard to tell you 'Cause I find it hard to take When people run in circles it's a very very Mad world Mad world Halargian world Mad world

"The Safety Dance"
We can dance if we want to We can leave your friends behind 'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance Well, they're no friends of mine
Say, we can go where we want to A place where they will never find And we can act like we come from out of this world Leave the real one far behind
And we can dance (Dancé!)
We can go when we want to The night is young and so am I And we can dress real neat from our hats to our feet And surprise 'em with the victory cry
Say, we can act if we want to If we don't, nobody will And you can act real rude and totally removed And I can act like an imbecile
And say, we can dance, we can dance Everything's out of control We can dance, we can dance They're doing it from pole to pole We can dance, we can dance Everybody look at your hands We can dance, we can dance Everybody's taking the chance Safety dance Oh well, the safety dance Ah yes, the safety dance
We can dance if we want to We've got all your life and mine As long as we abuse it, never gonna lose it Everything'll work out right
I say, we can dance if we want to We can leave your friends behind Because your friends don't dance and if they don't dance Well, they're no friends of mine
I say, we can dance, we can dance Everything's out of control We can dance, we can dance We're doing it from pole to pole We can dance, we can dance Everybody look at your hands We can dance, we can dance Everybody's taking the chance
Oh well, the safety dance Ah yes, the safety dance Oh well, the safety dance Oh well, the safety dance Oh yes, the safety dance Oh, the safety dance, yeah Well, it's the safety dance It's the safety dance Well, it's the safety dance Oh, it's the safety dance Oh, it's the safety dance Oh, it's the safety dance
